BRHL Cup Odds

2026–27 Stanley Cup Forecast
Commissioner — Sep. 29 '26

The puck is about to drop on another BRHL season, and with rosters largely set, it is time to answer the question every general manager, coach and fan ultimately cares about:

Who has the best chance to lift the Stanley Cup?

Rather than relying on name recognition or real-world NHL expectations, this forecast evaluates the current BRHL rosters and their STHS player ratings. The objective is to measure the construction of each roster as it exists inside the BRHL environment.

The model considers five major components:

  • Forward Strength — 30%
  • Defense — 25%
  • Goaltending — 20%
  • Depth & Resilience — 10%
  • Playoff Profile — 15%

The playoff component incorporates attributes such as strength, experience, leadership, durability and other characteristics that can become increasingly important over a four-round postseason.

The resulting percentages are model-estimated preseason Stanley Cup probabilities, not betting-market odds. They should be viewed as a snapshot of roster strength entering the season rather than a prediction of the final standings.

The complete current BRHL roster file was used as the player-rating foundation for the analysis.

1. Boston Bruins — 17.65%

Boston enters the season with the strongest overall Cup profile in the model. The forward group combines extraordinary scoring talent with multiple elite offensive options, including Nikita Kucherov, David Pastrnak, Alex DeBrincat, Cole Caufield and Jason Robertson. That kind of concentration makes the Bruins extremely difficult to defend over a seven-game series.

The goaltending tandem of Jake Oettinger and Scott Wedgewood provides another major pillar. Boston's biggest advantage is that it does not appear dependent on one particular way of winning. It has elite scoring, quality goaltending and enough depth to withstand the attrition of a long postseason.

Cup odds: 17.65%

2. Dallas Stars — 13.73%

Dallas combines elite talent at both ends of the roster with perhaps the biggest individual goaltending advantage in the league. Igor Shesterkin gives the Stars a legitimate ability to steal games when the offense isn't clicking.

The forward group has enough high-end scoring to put pressure on opponents, while the overall roster has fewer obvious weaknesses than most teams. Dallas projects as a team capable of winning both high-scoring and tightly contested playoff games.

Cup odds: 13.73%

3. Edmonton Oilers — 10.79%

Edmonton's ceiling starts with the highest level of offensive talent a roster can possess. The Oilers can overwhelm opponents through elite scoring and puck possession, and their supporting cast gives them more than simply one superstar-driven path to victory.

The model's slight separation from Boston and Dallas comes from overall roster insulation rather than offensive ceiling. Edmonton can absolutely score its way through a playoff bracket, but the teams above them grade out more evenly across all five components.

Cup odds: 10.79%

4. New Jersey Devils — 7.84%

New Jersey is one of the league's most complete rosters. There is enough offensive firepower to compete with the league's elite while maintaining a strong defensive and two-way foundation.

The Devils also receive a boost from their playoff profile. They aren't built around one narrow formula, which gives them multiple avenues through a difficult postseason matchup.

Cup odds: 7.84%

5. Seattle Kraken — 6.86%

Seattle is built in a way that should translate particularly well to playoff hockey. Defensive strength, puck movement and two-way ability are major components of the roster's identity.

The Kraken don't necessarily need to win track meets every night. Their profile suggests they can force opponents into difficult, lower-event games while still possessing enough skill to capitalize when opportunities appear.

Cup odds: 6.86%

6. New York Islanders — 5.88%

The Islanders receive a significant boost from their goaltending, with Andrei Vasilevskiy providing an important safety net behind the roster.

The offensive group doesn't quite possess the overwhelming firepower of the teams at the top of the rankings, but the overall construction gives New York a credible championship path. If the Islanders can consistently turn their defensive and goaltending strengths into close games, they become particularly dangerous in a playoff environment.

Cup odds: 5.88%

7. Tampa Bay Lightning — 4.90%

Tampa Bay continues to possess the kind of veteran, two-way talent that tends to make teams difficult playoff opponents. The Lightning have enough offensive skill to punish mistakes while maintaining a strong collection of players capable of handling difficult defensive assignments.

Their model profile isn't quite as dominant as the top six, but Tampa has enough high-end talent and playoff-oriented attributes to remain firmly in the contender conversation.

Cup odds: 4.90%

8. Florida Panthers — 4.90%

Florida combines physicality, defensive ability and high-end forward talent. That combination gives the Panthers a roster capable of playing a variety of styles depending on the opponent.

The goaltending tandem adds another layer of upside, while the overall physical and defensive profile should make Florida an uncomfortable postseason matchup. The Panthers' challenge is matching the elite offensive depth of the teams above them.

Cup odds: 4.90%

9. Colorado Avalanche — 4.41%

Colorado possesses one of the league's most dangerous collections of top-end offensive talent. Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Sebastian Aho and Roope Hintz give the Avalanche tremendous scoring potential.

The reason Colorado doesn't sit higher is the difference between its elite core and the overall roster depth. The top of the lineup can dominate a series, but championship teams generally need more than a handful of stars to survive four rounds.

Cup odds: 4.41%

10. Buffalo Sabres — 3.92%

Buffalo's roster has a legitimate championship foundation. Dylan Larkin gives the Sabres a high-end offensive centerpiece, while Pavel Zacha, Casey Mittelstadt, Gabriel Vilardi and the supporting forward group provide considerable depth.

Evan Bouchard is a major component of the defensive projection, and the combination of Bouchard, Damon Severson, Dmitry Orlov and the rest of the blue line gives Buffalo useful balance. Alex Lyon and Philipp Grubauer provide a solid tandem.

The challenge is the same one facing many teams outside the top tier: Buffalo has quality throughout the lineup, but the very best contenders possess more elite talent concentrated across their top units.

Cup odds: 3.92%

11. Toronto Maple Leafs — 3.43%

Toronto's offensive talent gives the Maple Leafs an extremely high ceiling. The problem for the model is not whether Toronto can score; it is whether the roster is sufficiently balanced to withstand four playoff rounds.

The Leafs have enough star power to eliminate a superior team in a series, but their overall profile doesn't quite match the balance of the contenders above them.

Cup odds: 3.43%

12. Pittsburgh Penguins — 2.45%

Pittsburgh remains dangerous because of its high-end offensive talent. The Penguins can create matchup problems against teams that struggle to contain skilled forwards.

Their Cup projection drops because the roster doesn't grade as strongly across the defensive and depth components. Pittsburgh has a path to a deep run, but that path requires its elite players to carry a substantial portion of the workload.

Cup odds: 2.45%

13. New York Rangers — 1.96%

The Rangers possess enough high-end talent to make themselves a difficult playoff opponent, but the roster doesn't consistently reach the same level across all five model categories.

New York's best route is built around maximizing its elite pieces and preventing weaker areas of the roster from becoming exposed over a long series.

Cup odds: 1.96%

14. Calgary Flames — 1.77%

Calgary's biggest asset is balance. The Flames don't have the same concentration of elite talent as the teams at the top, but they also don't present the same glaring weaknesses found on some lower-ranked rosters.

That gives Calgary a respectable baseline, although the model sees a substantial difference between being competitive and having enough elite talent to win four playoff rounds.

Cup odds: 1.77%

15. Los Angeles Kings — 1.77%

Los Angeles brings defensive ability, veteran experience and two-way strength to the table. Those characteristics can become especially valuable once playoff hockey slows down.

The limiting factor is offensive ceiling. The Kings have enough talent to compete, but the model doesn't see the same scoring depth possessed by the leading contenders.

Cup odds: 1.77%

16. Vegas Golden Knights — 1.47%

Vegas remains one of the more complete rosters in the middle of the league. There is quality throughout the lineup and enough two-way ability to create problems for stronger opponents.

The difference between Vegas and the teams above it is primarily concentration of elite talent. The Golden Knights have a good overall foundation, but fewer areas where they clearly overwhelm the competition.

Cup odds: 1.47%

17. San Jose Sharks — 1.18%

San Jose has several pieces capable of driving offense and a supporting group that gives the Sharks legitimate upside.

The model nevertheless sees inconsistency across the complete roster. The Sharks have enough individual talent to create a playoff run, but they need more of those pieces to perform at a high level simultaneously.

Cup odds: 1.18%

18. Ottawa Senators — 0.98%

Ottawa has useful offensive talent and several younger pieces capable of providing upside. The roster has enough skill to be competitive, particularly when its better forwards are driving play.

The gap comes from the overall package. Ottawa doesn't yet combine elite offense, defense and goaltending at the same level as the teams above it.

Cup odds: 0.98%

19. Nashville Predators — 0.78%

Nashville has several individual strengths and enough veteran presence to make the roster competitive.

The model, however, sees too little elite concentration across the full lineup. The Predators can be difficult to play against, but a championship run would require several components of the roster to outperform their baseline projections.

Cup odds: 0.78%

20. Winnipeg Jets — 0.69%

Winnipeg has the pieces to remain competitive, but the roster doesn't quite match the top teams in the combination of top-six forwards, top-four defensemen and goaltending.

The Jets' profile suggests a team capable of winning individual playoff series, but the model sees a difficult path through four rounds.

Cup odds: 0.69%

21. Minnesota Wild — 0.59%

Minnesota has useful two-way players and enough depth to avoid being overwhelmed by most opponents.

The issue is elite concentration. The Wild don't consistently match the championship contenders in the combination of high-end offense, defense and goaltending required for a deep run.

Cup odds: 0.59%

22. St. Louis Blues — 0.49%

St. Louis brings physicality, defensive ability and veteran experience. Those traits give the Blues a legitimate identity and could make them a difficult matchup.

The scoring ceiling is the primary concern. Against the league's best rosters, the Blues may struggle to generate enough offense consistently.

Cup odds: 0.49%

23. Philadelphia Flyers — 0.39%

Philadelphia has depth and several useful individual pieces, but the overall roster lacks the concentration of elite talent found on the contenders.

The Flyers' best path would require their depth players to outperform expectations while their top players consistently win their individual matchups.

Cup odds: 0.39%

24. Anaheim Ducks — 0.29%

Anaheim is a roster with considerable room to grow. There are interesting individual pieces, but the current pro group doesn't yet have enough high-end strength across the forward, defensive and goaltending categories.

The Ducks' trajectory may be more interesting than their immediate championship probability.

Cup odds: 0.29%

25. Utah Mammoth — 0.25%

Utah is an important example of why individual star power and complete roster strength aren't always the same thing.

The Mammoth possess legitimate elite pieces capable of changing games, but the supporting structure isn't yet strong enough for the model to project them alongside the established contenders.

Cup odds: 0.25%

26. Columbus Blue Jackets — 0.20%

Columbus has intriguing individual talent and some useful components, but the roster lacks sufficient elite concentration to move into the league's upper tier.

The Blue Jackets' projection improves considerably if their stronger individual pieces can consistently elevate the surrounding lineup.

Cup odds: 0.20%

27. Vancouver Canucks — 0.15%

Vancouver has useful pieces, but the roster has significant ground to make up across the major model categories.

The goaltending profile in particular makes it difficult for the Canucks to receive the same championship-grade projection as teams higher on the list.

Cup odds: 0.15%

28. Montreal Canadiens — 0.10%

Montreal's roster has developing talent, but the current group doesn't yet combine enough elite scoring, defensive strength and goaltending to project as a serious Cup threat.

There is a foundation here, but the model views the Canadiens as a team still building toward championship-level roster balance.

Cup odds: 0.10%

29. Chicago Blackhawks — 0.08%

Chicago has intriguing young talent and individual players capable of becoming important pieces.

At the current roster level, however, there isn't enough depth or elite strength across all three major roster groups to support a championship projection.

Cup odds: 0.08%

30. Washington Capitals — 0.05%

Washington has some useful pieces, but the current roster doesn't feature enough elite attributes concentrated among its top six forwards, top four defensemen and goaltending tandem.

The model therefore places the Capitals among the teams facing the steepest climb to championship contention.

Cup odds: 0.05%

31. Detroit Red Wings — 0.03%

Detroit's current roster grades near the bottom across the major components of the model. The team lacks sufficient elite talent to compensate for weaknesses elsewhere in the lineup.

That leaves the Red Wings with a very narrow statistical path to a championship season.

Cup odds: 0.03%

32. Carolina Hurricanes — 0.02%

Carolina rounds out the model because the current roster doesn't generate enough high-end strength across offense, defense and goaltending simultaneously.

There are useful individual players, but the overall construction falls well short of the championship-level balance demonstrated by the teams at the top of the forecast.

Cup odds: 0.02%

Contender Tiers

The Front-Runners

Boston, Dallas, Edmonton

These are the three rosters that separate themselves most clearly from the field. Each has enough elite talent to drive a championship-caliber lineup while maintaining significant supporting strength.

The Serious Contenders

New Jersey, Seattle, NY Islanders

These teams don't quite reach the top tier's overall roster concentration, but their combination of strengths gives them credible paths to a Stanley Cup.

The Dangerous Middle

Tampa Bay, Florida, Colorado, Buffalo, Toronto

This group contains teams with very different identities, but all possess enough high-end talent to make a deep run. A strong regular season, favorable matchup path or outstanding goaltending could dramatically change the postseason picture.

The Long Shots

Pittsburgh through Vegas

These teams have enough quality to make the playoff picture interesting, but the model sees a larger gap between their overall roster construction and that of the primary contenders.

The Developmental Group

San Jose through Carolina

The lower portion of the forecast contains a mixture of developing rosters, teams lacking elite concentration and clubs that need significant improvement in multiple roster categories before they project as legitimate championship threats.

The Bottom Line

The 2026–27 BRHL Cup picture begins with a clear upper tier, but the model also shows why hockey remains difficult to predict.

Boston leads the forecast at 17.65%, but even the top-ranked team is below a one-in-five model probability. Dallas and Edmonton follow, giving three teams a combined 42.17% of the model's championship probability.

After that, the field becomes considerably more open.

New Jersey, Seattle and the Islanders form the next group, while Tampa Bay, Florida, Colorado, Buffalo and Toronto all sit within striking distance of the upper tier.

That is ultimately what makes the BRHL postseason so difficult to forecast. A roster can have elite individual players and still fall short because of depth. Another team can lack superstar concentration but compensate with defense, goaltending and two-way strength. Over a seven-game series, those differences can become decisive.

For now, though, the model has spoken.

The road to the 2026–27 BRHL Stanley Cup begins in Boston, with Dallas and Edmonton right behind them.
