I was debating ranking everyone based off who is the Silliest Goose, but then I remember Toby wrote a dog-shit article the other day so we had to correct it. Here are the official GM rankings of the BRHL.
1. Leon – The BRHL's version of a Fortune 500 company. Every year he's under the cap, has a roster full of stars, and somehow still has assets left over. While everyone else treats draft picks like family heirlooms, Leon flips them around like Monopoly money.
2. Dan – Dan showed up, won a Cup, blew the team up, and somehow everyone trusts the process. Most GMs rebuild because they have no choice. Dan rebuilds because he's bored. Give him a few seasons and he'll probably be back ruining everyone else's.
3. Greg – Every year Boston looks like a fantasy hockey roster, every year they somehow underachieve... and yet Greg still convinces everyone he's winning every trade. He's basically the guy who keeps refinancing his mortgage to buy another Ferrari. Somehow it keeps working.
4. Sheds – "Draft-schmaft." That's apparently the official Predators slogan. Sheds builds contenders without picks, claims he knows how the sim works, and still hasn't delivered the league website he promised two years ago. The only explanation is he's either cheating... or the website is being coded on Windows 95.
5. Doc – Jordan has spent years telling everyone his prospects are future superstars. We all laughed. Unfortunately for us, they might actually be becoming good.
6. Rex – Everyone laughs at Rex for drafting goalies... right until they're begging him for one in November. Somehow this ridiculous strategy keeps working. It's the hockey equivalent of investing your retirement savings entirely in beanie babies and somehow retiring early.
7. Eric D – Commissioner by day, poison pill distributor by night. Eric's teams are never flashy, they're just annoyingly good every single season. It's like taxes: you don't enjoy them, but they're always there.
8. Kevin – Kevin walks into every draft with 47 picks and leaves with everyone's praise, but as Sumit has said “This team is stuck in mediocrity”. No doubt Kevin can draft, but can he build a roster?.
9. Rumpy – Dynasty #2 has officially begun. We expect four years of brilliance followed by four years of intentional tanking . Rumpy is just starting to enter his prime now.
10. Dave – It’s been a rough few years now for Dave, but it was eventually going to catch up to him. He owns one of the BRHL’s all time best records, so let’s give some credit where it is due.
11. Eric F – Tampa has quietly been one of the East's best teams for years. Unfortunately his stars are getting older, and unlike his commissioner stint, rebuilding isn't optional this time.
12. Larry – Official president of the Elite Eight... according to Larry. The former cop follows every rule, sends enough Facebook memes to fill a museum, and somehow keeps making the playoffs despite building teams slower than dial-up internet.
13. Jared – Jared treats HockeyDB like it's bedtime reading. Every prospect is studied. The problem is they all seem to arrive right around the time he's starting another rebuild. At least the dispensary loyalty points are adding up.
14. Steve – Steve has been teaching lessons all these years, but apparently never learned one himself: eventually your players get old. His playoff streak deserves respect but it’s time to start the rebuild.
15. Toby – Toby inherited another rebuild because apparently suffering runs in the Cordell family. Loud, obnoxious, loves the Jets. The Wilds rebuild may finish sometime before Winnipeg wins a Stanley Cup.
16. Joe Bast – Joe used to be the Capitals, he had more success under that team. Maybe he and Larry should trade names again, it might help them both out.
17. Sumit – The self-proclaimed Lion of the BRHL. Nobody believes in Sumit more than Sumit. Every offseason he declares, "This is the year." Every offseason we nod politely and wait for the next questionable signing.
18. Jesse – Jesse has gone completely silent since Desnoyers-gate. Rumour has it he's still recovering. Give your balls a tug, buddy. You dropped a couple spots on this list for being a pussy.
19. Brayden – The new kid has already done more with Ottawa than Steph managed in years. That's admittedly a compliment with an incredibly low bar. The Atlantic Division will humble him soon enough.
20. Matt – Toby patiently built a future. Matt looked at that future and said, "Nah." Prospects out, stars in, pedal to the floor. It's either genius... or we'll be roasting his decisions in two years.
21. Garrett – Garrett always has players on the block but can never trade them. His Leafs are permanently stuck between rebuilding and pretending they're competitive.
22. P.J. – Quiet, but calculated. P.J made a big splash a couple seasons ago but it fizzled out pretty quickly. The team is on the right track now but he needs to move some of his elite pieces to kickstart the rebuild.
23. Rich – Once upon a time Rich was one of the league's boogeymen. These days he's more interested in going on vacation. His decline has been a sight to behold.
24. Sober Ty – Every season starts with hope and ends with another draft lottery simulator. Florida finally made an appearance to the playoffs last season but decided his team wasn’t good enough… again.
25. Devon – Owner of the worst record in BRHL history, but we will give him some more credit than that. When he wants to, he can put together a fantastic roster, but we believe Devon enjoys drafting and accumulating prospects more.
26. Ken – Ken spends more time talking politics than improving the Devils. He finally has assembled a nice core of young players, but something tells me they are all going to request a trade out.
27. Joel – Joel's BRHL success up to this point has been non-existent, but the page appears to be turning. His roster is trending upwards, but I feel this should have happened two seasons ago.
28. Tyler W – One of the newer GMs around here. Unlike Matt, Tyler W prefers to coast on by unnoticed. When teams are boring, they usually end up at the bottom of these rankings.
29. Junya – New managers have no idea this guy used to terrify the league. Back-to-back Cups. Dynasty. Dominance. Now? Ghost GM. The mighty have fallen.
30. Joe Bubanj – Two trades in five years. We're honestly not sure Joe knows he still owns the Islanders. Dan built the team, Joe preserved it, and now the salary cap is collecting what's owed.
31. Pat – Pat openly admits he doesn't know hockey, which ironically makes him one of the most honest people in the league. Bryce handed him a Ferrari and somehow he's managed to stall it at every red light.
32. Anthony – It's been tough times for Anthony's Flyers. Despite not participating a whole lot, his team still somehow manages to squeak into the playoffs and prompt lose in the 1st round. There have been a lot of questionable decisions here, but maybe one day Anthony will miss the good ol' days and start putting more effort into his team.
