Making a draft review of your own picks is very cringe to me so here is an actual draft review of the 1st round that is hopefully worth some BRHL BUCKS.
1. Matthew Schaefer (OTT) - An extremely obvious choice here for the sens at pick 1. Great Job not fucking it up! Grade - A+
2. Anton Frondell (MIN) - I honestly debated Misa or Martone here a couple of times but just felt like Frondell was the right pick to make. Really liked my pick here. Grade - A
3. Michael Misa (DET) - The first surprise of the draft IMO, not sure why but I was certain Danny was going Martone after his solid playoff stretch with Philly. I do really like the Misa pick here for Dan. Grade - B+
4. Caleb Desnoyers (CBJ)- The infamous draft blunder here for Jesiah who's list didn't save. While I don't truly hate the pick I think there was a few guys Jesiah would have preferred here. Given the circumstances I'll go with a Grade - D+
5. Porter Martone (CHI) - Great value for Dave to get Martone here. He is who I would imagine Jesiah would have picked here and otherwise wouldn't have gotten as elite value here. Grade - A
6. James Hagens (VGK) - I LOVE this pick for Joe. I feel like Hagens will be the guy we'll be wondering how we let him slip past us in a few years. Phenomenal pick here. Grade - A+
7. Ben Kindel (MTL) - I think if there was a certain draft blunder that didn't occur Kindel would've went 5 to Dave. Think this pick would have been Desnoyers for Steve, but a nice value pick here as Steve gets an NHL ready player injected into his lineup. Grade A
8. Jake O'Brien (CHI) - Dave continues to have a great draft here with O'brien. Had a great season on a stacked BFD team. Grade - A
9. Kashawn Aitcheson (ANA) - I may be a bit biased here but I LOVE Kashawn and I think his game will translate beautifully to the NHL. Hard hitting, high end offense, great puck mover and skater. All situations D. Future sim god. Phenomenal pick. Grade A++
10. Alexander Zharovsky (NJD) - I was initially a bit surprised that Zharovsky jumped this high but I really like that Ken went out and got his guy. Should be a strong NHL player in the future with high offensive upside but may never bring that defensive aspect that is very desireable in the SIM. Good pick here. Grade A-
11. Victor Eklund (LION) - I really like this pick here by THE Sumit. Wouldn't expect anything less from such a great GM. Grade A
12. Roger McQueen (NYR) - I really like the value that PJ gets here. I personally had McQueen ranked in my top 10. Could've argued he should be as high as 8 given his BRHL rating potential. Grade - A
13. Justin Carbonneau (CAR) - I like the upside of this pick but I had him going 3-4 picks later. 50 goal season is great but lacks a bit of playmaking ability. Grade B
14. Braeden Cootes (VAN) - This pick being right in front of the LION makes it that much better. Cootes had a strong D+1 and playoff run with Prince Albert. Not in love with the player but decent value here. Grade B+
15. Carter Bear (LION) - I think this may have been the Lion's best pick of the draft. I really like Bear's game and he had a phenomenal season and playoff run with Everett. Great value here. Grade A
16. Cameron Reid (CAR) - Reid was a critial part of Kitchener's playoff run in the OHL this season and I get why he was picked here, BUT I would have had him 5-7 slots below this pick. Like the player again for brother uncle but again am not in love with the value here. Grade B-
17. Brady Martin (TB) - While it is hard to argue with somebody taking the former 5th overall pick at 17, there is a reason Martin fell to here. He had a rough season dealing with some injuries and when he was playing seemed to lack the progression you would hope to see from a 1st round pick. Good risk for the pick here but I personally am not a fan of him. Grade C+
18. Radim Mrtka (MIN) - A similar boat to the pick above, it's hard to argue with someone picking the former 9th overall pick at 18 however there is clear reasons he fell to here and I personally wouldn't have taken him here if I was available at the draft. Lacks true offensive upside so he will hopefully be a high DF guy for me in the future. Grade B-
19. Cole Reschny (DET) - This guy seems to be the BRHL's favourite prospect. I am personally not a huge fan but this is also where the draft seems to fall off a bit. The 6 goal season in the NCAA scares me a bit for his future NHL production. Danny hopes I am wrong. Grade B
20. William Horcoff (PHI) - This is one of the last picks in the draft that I am pretty high on the player for where he went. This ia a great pick for Anthony with Horcoff coming off a great season with Michigan. A drastic improvement year over year. Grade A
21+22+23 - Vaclav Nestrasil - Jackson Smith - Ryker Lee (DET) - I think the GMS picking behind Dan probably fell to their knees wherever they were standing seeing Dan collect these 3 really strong prospects. Great value specifically on Jackson Smith who seems to be very mature and probably NHL ready within a couple seasons. These are the 3 highest guys on my board here. A homerun for Dan who doesn't need to hit many more before he builds another dynasty in our faces. Grade A+ for these 3 picks.
24. Lynden Lakovic (VAN) - It always scares me when D+1 players have injury rittled seasons but you can't deny the production he put up in the games he did play. Scored goals at a very high clip across a 22 game span on a weaker junior team. Good pick here. Grade B+
25. Pyotr Andreyanov (NYR) - Goalies remain highly valuable in the BRHL so you can't falult PJ here for going out and getting one of the top goalies in the class. Had a strong D+1 in Russia. I like the value here a lot. Grade A-
26. Bill Zonnon (OTT) - I really like Zonnon but I also personally hate drafting guys out of the QMJHL. A good value pick for a guy who will hopefully turn into a really solid sim player for the Sens. Grade B
27. Cullen Potter (CGY) - Kevin goes out and gets his Flame here. I don't hate the pick but I do wonder about his true NHL upside. Grade C+
28. Mason West (NYR) - I really liked PJ's draft up until this pick but in a weaker draft class there probably wasn't a ton of options PJ would be happy with here after already picking up a goalie. I have the same concerns here as I do for the pick above. Grade C+
29. Henry Brzustewicz (CAR) - This is by far my favourite pick of brother uncle Rich's in the first round. He had a phenomenal D+1 year with the Knights who continue to produce NHL talent like no other junior team in the world. Great value here, love the pick. Grade A
30. Joshua Ravensburgen (LION) - I really like the value here that the Lion is getting in Ravensburgen. If he is the goalie of the Sharks future this will be a complete monster of a pick. Grade A
31. Jack Nesbitt (CBJ) - I know this is probably an auto pick to Jesiah but I actually really like the value here. Hopefully Jesiah sticks around as he is a core member of the BRHL family. Good value here but personally not a Nesbitt guy. Grade B+
32. Jacob Rombach (NYR) - I think there is quite a few guys who went after this that I greatly would have preferred. I am not high on Rombach at all. Not sure why he was picked here, may have had a chance at landing him 10-15 picks later. Truly lacks NHL upside in any regard and probably the worst pick of the 1st round (SORRY PJ). Grade D
