Good day friends, the highly anticipated Toby mock is finally here! Lets get right to it.
Jesse - CBJ 1. Matthew Schaefer - Jesse goes with the obvious consesus # 1 here. Nothing to see here. Schaefer had a monster rookie season with the Isles.
Tobias - MIn 2. Anton Frondell - Toby loves the start Frondell had with Chicago. However this is far from set in stone. Could go multiple directions here still.
Danny - Det 3. Porter Martone - I think Danny will go with Martone after a great playoffs with the Flyers to start his career, although I do feel this pick could go a few different ways come draft time as well.
Barrel - Ott 4. Michael Misa - I have no idea who goes here either. This is a really shitty mock draft that all of you waited all of this time for. Kidding, the Sens go BPA here and are happy with the IRL 2nd overall pick falling to 4.
Dave - Chi 5. Ben Kindel - Dave loves the season Ben Kindel had with the Pens and goes and gets his guy at 5. Great upside with this pick after a phenomenal rookie year with the Pens.
Joe - Vgk 6. James Hagens - The world's biggest Kitchener fan goes the college route here with Hagens after a great D+1 year with Boston College. Really great value here for Joe if the draft falls this way for him.
Steve - Mtl 7. Caleb Desnoyers - This would be a very Habs friendly pick IRL and it also happens to be just that for Steve and the BRHL Habs. Steve takes the falling top pick and is happy to get him here.
Dave - Chi 8. Jake O'Brien - I have Dave going with who would be my top player on the board at this point in O'Brien after another real strong season and playoffs with BFD in the OHL. I think Dave would be thrilled to pair him with Kindel for his BRHL future.
Devon - Ana 9. Kashawn Aitcheson - After an insane run with Barrie in the OHL playoffs I think Dev will ultimately get a bit horny here and go with Kash. I truly don't think he will be able to keep the Colts boner in his pants. He could also get Ducks horny here with Mcqueen which may be worth considering when planning for this years draft.
Ken - Njd 10. Roger Mcqueen - Think Ken will be happy to go with the 6'5 monster who had a great D+1 year with Providence. Sky high ceiling at pick 10 with a guy who was drafted by a team that can't seem to miss with their picks lately. Love the value here for Ken.
The Lion - SJ 11. Brady Martin - The lion shows up without having done any draft prep and goes with the BPA Brady Martin. Good real life draft value here but he falls due to a disappointing D+1 year. The Lion takes the risk.
PJ - Nyr 12. Jackson Smith - Tough to predict for PJ here as I don't speak to him much to know what he likes but Jackson Smith had a great year with Penn St. and I have him rising a couple spots from his IRL draft spot and going to PJ here. Strong pick.
Rich - Car 13. Radim Mrtka - You never know where Rich will go when drafting but I have him drafting the BPA at this spot in Mrtka. A D who does it all. He's 6'6, can skate and move the puck. Can contribute in many aspects and that makes him a future rock on the blueline for Carolina.
Tyler - Van 14. Jack Nesbitt - Again tough to predict picks for gms you don't know super well but I have him going with Nesbitt here. He had another strong year on a really solid Windsor team. Nice pick for VAN here.
Rich - Car 15. Braeden Cootes - I have Rich going with a top remaining forward here after going Mrtka a couple of picks ago. Cootes had a really strong finish to his year on a great team in Prine Albert. Really good playoff run as well with 23p in 20 games. Strong first two picks from Rich.
The Lion - SJ 16. Joshua Ravensbergen - The lion doesn't panic despite his guy going right in front of him to Rich and he solidifies the future of his net with the top available goalie in the draft. Lion type of move here.
Eric - TB 17. Victor Eklund - An absolute homerun pick for Eric here in Eklund. He had a decent D+1 in Europe before having a strong 10 game stint in the AHL and then a point in his only NHL game this year. Sky high ceiling here at pick 17. Boom or bust type for sure. A risk Eric will happily take at 17.
Toby - Min 18. Carter Bear - I might not be able to resist being biased here and going with my IRL Jet in Boumedienne but I love the value I would get here. Don't think Bear will get to me in the draft but I couldn't figure out where to slot him in any of the above spots. Would be happy with this pick.
Danny - Det 19. Bill Zonnon - Danny likes guys that get in on the forecheck, play both sides of the puck and have offensive upside. He gets all of those things in Bill Zonnon here and I love the Dubas pick here. Awesome pick.
Anthony - Phi 20. Justin Carbonneau - Super boring for Anthony here as this player was mocked to him in Dan's as well but I like the value and the player here. Can score at an elite clip that could very well translate to the NHL.
Danny - Det 21. Pyotr Andreyanov - These next 3 picks are all to Dan and could go in any order but we'll go with a goalie for the Red Wings future here in Pyotr.. The real life highest goalie pick and the 2nd goalie in the BRHL draft thus far. Dan gets a goalie with one of his 3 picks in a row here.
Danny - Det 22. Henry Brzustewicz - After a great D+1 in London and a stint in the AHL to end his season, Dan will be happy with the value here. I have Dan covering his bases with a F,D,G with these 3 consecutive picks and this is the highest D left on most gms board at this point in the draft. Definitely some nice value here coming out of the Knights org that never stops producing NHL talent.
Danny - Det 23. Ryker Lee - Ryker had a strong season with Michigan state and Danny continues to stock his cupboards with a talented offensive player here despite the preds having a terrible track record of developing offensive talent IRL.
Tyler - Van 24. Alexander Zharovsky - After an outstanding year in the KHL I have Zharovsky coming into our first round of the BRHL here. Insane value here for Tyler. I think he'd be thrilled to get him here.
PJ - Nyr 25. Cole Reschny - A lack of goals this season in college is the reason I have Reschny falling a bit. Still good value here, will have to hope for some offensive growth before getting to the show but the work ethic brings a high floor at this pick.
Barrel - Ott 26. Will Horcoff - Have Brayden going with Horcoff after a real strong season with Michigan. Bray is a home run type of drafter and I believe Horcoff is just that at this stage in the 1st round.
Kevin - Cal 27. Vaclav Nestrasil - Kevin is a sneaky drafter who always makes good picks, that is what this is here. Kev will hope that he works his way onto Bedard's line in the future and if so this could be an absolute gift for Kevin.
PJ - Rangers 28. Sascha Boumedienne - A great value pick for PJ here after a great WJC for Sascha. He is a D man that could be a well rounded stud in the future.
Rich - Car 29. Lynden Lakovic - Rich claims here that the two picks in front of him were the only two remaining on his board and delays the draft until he lands his eyes on this stud. He had trouble staying healthy and only played 22 games in the WHL this year but had 18 goals in that span. High upside pick here. Has the size and skill to make a smooth transition with a clear path to playing time in IRL Washington.
Barrel - Ott 30. Cameron Read - Joe trades for this pick and drafts the stud D out of his favourite hockey team on earth the Kitchener Rangers. He is thrilled to grab the falling Preds D here.
Barrel - Ott 31. Mason West - West had a strong D+1 and is progressing nicely it would seem. Barrel is happy to land an IRL Hawk due to the Bedard affect.
PJ - Nyr 32. Logan Hensler - PJ goes BPA here to close round 1. Going for a guy who will have 54 PA and 88 Df one day if he reaches his potential with Ottawa IRL. Could be a nice piece to place into the backend in the future.
